Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started with services?
You can contact me through this website via the contact page or directly call (650-701-3022) or email me (info@kariberquist.com) to discuss getting started.
All new clients must go through a 2 hour intake process, which includes a diagnostic interview conducted with both you and your child. There is a one time fee associated with the intake ($620) and the CPT code is 90791.
If you are seeking a diagnostic assessment, which requires a report for documentation purposes the fee is $1,000. This assessment will also qualify as your intake appointment if you chose to continue therapeutic services with me.
Where do sessions take place?
Sessions occur in my office in downtown Menlo Park or via electronic communications (phone, video conferencing) for telehealth appointments. In-home, community, or school observations are also available, but not for regularly scheduled therapy appointments.
Do you take insurance?
I do not accept insurance directly. My name may come up on your plan as an in-network provider; however this is related to my past employment at Stanford and is not applicable to my current services. Depending on your health insurance coverage, I may be considered an out-of-network provider and my services could be partially (e.g., 20-80%) or fully reimbursable (e.g., 100% could be covered if my services qualify and you have met your annual deductible). To help facilitate out-of-network claims with your insurance provider, I will provide a monthly statement (often referred to as a superbill), which will contain all the necessary information to submit to your insurance company.
How do I find out what my insurance company covers for your out-of network services?
Contact or consult your insurance company, human resource services, or online benefits package through your employer or health insurance company.

Do you provide a "Good Faith Estimate"?
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.
You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. How frequent and how long are appointments?
Typically sessions are weekly or bi-weekly and last 50 minutes. As your child and family progress in therapy and achieve mutually set goals, the frequency of sessions will reduce over time. If your family is attending a multi-group family therapy program, sessions are typically weekly for 50-90 minutes and consist of approximately 12 sessions.
As a parent, what will be my involvement in therapy?
All sessions are family therapy based sessions. This means that a parent or parents are expected to attend and participate in all sessions, despite your child’s age and functioning level. It is my goal to teach parents how to achieve long standing change in their family’s and child’s life.
Do you train other professionals/providers in my child’s life?
I do not offer formal training to professionals in my therapeutic techniques; however providers (e.g., ABA therapists, nanny, speech therapist) are welcome to attend and observe regularly scheduled sessions with written permission and advanced notice. I also do provide lectures/seminars/workshops for staff training purposes to agencies or providers, hourly rates apply.
